Living Lands & Waters will be docking at our waterfront Wharf from October 27 to November 2. This organization, renowned for its “industrial strength” river cleanups, spends up to nine months a year on a barge traversing our inland waterways hosting cleanups, conservation initiatives, workshops, and tree plantings.
Recent environmental events highlight the importance of their work. During their stay, they’ll be performing organized cleanups and offering over 10 days of free environmental workshops for students. These workshops will cover topics like water quality testing, sustainable resource use, and the effects of watershed activities on water quality. Students will also learn about the impact of water pollution on all levels of the food chain.
With the help of over 126,500 volunteers, Living Lands & Waters has removed over 13 million pounds of trash from America’s rivers. Their mission is to protect, preserve, and restore our nation’s major rivers and their watersheds, raise awareness of environmental issues, and encourage citizens to take an active role in improving our river environments.
