From Frost to Fresh Starts – Your Waterfront Winter Update

A message from our Executive Director, Deborah Bilitski:

Dear Friends of Waterfront Park,

Happy New Year! This one is off to a cold and snowy start and, while I am not a fan of the cold, the snow has transformed Waterfront Park into a picturesque winter wonderland. Our dedicated maintenance crew has been doing their best to clear pathways and parking lots to keep the park accessible for everyone to enjoy the breathtaking frozen landscape along the Ohio River. If you’re fortunate, you might even spot the elusive red fox our crew has seen in the early morning hours.

Although I never wish time away, I am eagerly anticipating springtime, a truly special season for Waterfront Park. Our park has always been a gathering place for our community to celebrate, connect, and find joy—and 2025 promises even more opportunities to create meaningful moments together.

This year, we have some exciting projects and events on the horizon. PlayPort, the first section of the Waterfront Park Phase IV westward expansion, will open this spring (exact date TBA). This project has been over a decade in the making, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience this amazing and special new space.

In addition to expanding the park, we are continuously working to enhance the existing park. I am pleased to report that the Overlook Restoration project is now complete, the riverwalk pathways have been repaved, and the Swing Garden turf restoration is underway. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our donors, volunteers, and supporters, whose generosity and dedication make everything we do possible.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress and be sure to mark your calendars for some of the signature events that make Waterfront Park the heart of our city. Together, let’s make 2025 a year to remember!
