The celebration will feature free musical entertainment conducted by the Louisville Orchestra, family activities, local food trucks, festival food and a professional fireworks display over the Ohio River. See below for more information.

Grab the kids and pop on over to the Kids’ Area to engage in a variety of family-friendly activities. From music creation with the National Jug Band Jubilee, boat building with the Kentucky Science Center, Voyageur Canoe Rides with the Ohio River Way and pinback button-making with the Louisville Free Public Library – the Kids’ Area will have a diverse selection of activities for everyone. In addition to educational activities led by community organizations, face painting, balloon art and bounce houses will also be available for families to enjoy

Participating community organizations providing family fun activities include Fund for the Arts, Kentucky Science Center, Louisville City FC, Racing Louisville FC, Louisville Free Public Library, MSD, Louisville Nature Center, National Jug Band Jubilee, Ohio River Way, Redline Performing Arts, Friends of the Waterfront and the YMCA of Greater Louisville.

Schedule of Events – July 4
5:00 pm – Event opens with UAW Color Guard followed by music from DJ Always on the Mainstage
Kids’ Area opens
6:30 pm – Music by the Derby City Dandies on the Mainstage
8:30 pm – Louisville Orchestra performance begins
Kids’ Area closes
10:00 pm – Fireworks!

Louisville Labor Unions are joining together to provide a heat relief tent for the public offering free ice cold water, Gatorade, and a salute to our first responders.

New this year on July 3!
Waterfront Park will host a free family movie night with the Play Forever Project
at the Great Lawn to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the movie, “The Sandlot.” The evening event will include a free screening of the film with a special introduction from cast members Grant Gelt (Bertram Grover Weeks), Victor DiMattia (Timmy Timmons) and Shane Obedzinski (Tommy ‘Repeat’ Timmons). The family movie night will conclude with a firework display by the Louisville Bats.

Items which are prohibited:

Glass, coolers, fireworks, pets, outside food & alcohol, amplification devices, signage larger than 24” x 24”, bicycling inside the event, and skateboarding inside the event are prohibited. There will be bicycle racks to lock up bicycles on site. Unopened bottles of water are permitted.
