Fireworks, Festivals & Spring at Waterfront Park

A message from our Executive Director, Deborah Bilitski:

Dear Friends of Waterfront Park,

Happy Spring at last!  I am pleased to share that Waterfront Park has once again been recognized nationally, placing in the top three of USA Today’s Best Riverwalk competition for the fourth year in a row. This recognition reflects the hard work of our team and the strong support of our community in making Waterfront Park one of the country’s premier riverfront destinations.

I would also like to remind everyone that exactly this time last year, the Ohio River had taken over and much of Waterfront Park was completely under water. That major flood event led to the cancellation of Thunder Over Louisville, which makes us especially excited to welcome Thunder back this weekend. Thunder also marks the official kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival, and beginning April 23, the Festival will take over Waterfront Park for nine days. We’re looking forward to the return of favorite events including Fest-a-Ville, the Chow Wagon, the Great Balloon Glow, the Great Steamboat Race, and so much more on our very own TurfMutt Great Lawn.

As we gear up for this exciting stretch, we continue working closely with our partners at LMPD to address safety and security needs throughout the park. This coordination happens every day, not just during Derby Festival, because keeping Waterfront Park safe, welcoming, and accessible for everyone remains one of our highest priorities.

We look forward to seeing you at the Waterfront!
