Derby City Head Race Comes to the Waterfront

The Louisville Rowing Club is excited to bring the inaugural Derby City Head Race to the TurfMutt Great Lawn on October 10, 2026! This 5km race will bring rowing teams from across the region to Louisville for a full day of racing on the Ohio River.

We are expecting more than 1,000 athletes, coaches, families, and spectators to join us for the event. Rowers will range from high school athletes competing in their first regatta to masters rowers with decades of experience. We are excited to introduce more people to the sport of rowing and showcase our riverfront to visiting teams and families.

We are incredibly grateful to Waterfront Development Corporation for helping us bring this event to the Waterfront. We are also looking for volunteers to help us make race day a success! You do not need to know anything about rowing to volunteer. There will be plenty of jobs for people who are new to the sport, and we would love to have members of the Louisville community join us for the day.
