A message from our Executive Director, Deborah Bilitski:
Dear Friends of Waterfront Park,
July began with vibrant energy and heartfelt celebration as tens of thousands gathered for our Fourth of July festivities, lighting up our waterfront with music, dancing, and a spectacular fireworks show. We are so grateful to everyone who came out to honor community and country with us. The talent was inspiring, the spirit undeniable, and it reminded us exactly why Waterfront Park is such a cherished gathering place.
Yesterday, we gathered for a ceremony honoring Patty and Jim Williamson, two remarkable civic leaders whose devotion to public service helped shape the park and the city we cherish. Jim’s passing earlier this year sparked a wave of generosity from friends and family, leading to the establishment of the Patty and Jim Williamson Endowment Fund to support the park’s future. Joined by their son Justin, we celebrated the Williamsons’ legacy of quiet leadership, enduring values, and love for Louisville. A new plaque in the Swing Garden now serves as a permanent tribute to their impact.
As summer unfolds, there’s no shortage of ways to connect, celebrate, and recharge. From PlayPort Picnic and The Big Stomp to concerts under the stars and races for a cause, July at Waterfront Park offers something for everyone. Thanks for being part of our community and for helping make this space one of joy, remembrance, and togetherness.
